Our Story: A Texas Tale

Temple, Texas, has long been known by the nickname “Tanglefoot” – a nod to our city’s rich history and vibrant spirit. The name dates back to Temple’s early days as a booming railroad town, where travelers, workers, and locals filled the bustling streets, enjoying lively gatherings, toe-tapping music, and true Texas hospitality. Some say the nickname came from the lively energy of those early days, a place where feet were always moving, dancing, celebrating, and forging the strong community spirit that still defines Temple today.

Today, “Tanglefoot” represents more than a moment in history—it’s a tribute to Temple’s legacy of good times, great music, and the unshakable bonds that bring people together. Whether you’re a lifelong resident or a first-time visitor, you’ll find that same welcoming energy here, where the past meets the present in the heart of Central Texas.

So come on down, kick up your heels, and let the good times TANGLE!

TEMPLE TEXAS:
A TOWN OF LEGENDS

on June 29, 1881, the Gulf, Colorado & Santa Fe Railway held a big town lot sale, complete with beer and barbecue for everyone. This event officially put Temple on the map, giving settlers the chance to set up businesses and build homes. Even before the sale, the railroad had already let a few key businesses get started.

today, temple has seen significant growth consistently since 2000. Placed strategically off of interstate 35, and only 65 miles from austin, tx, temple has served its people as a hub of amenities and small-town charm.

so whether your in town tanglefoot or not, temple is sure to offer you the same hospitality its offered its residents for the past century, and thats a hospitality that just can’t be messed with.
